Which home based business is right for you?

Before you start a home based business you will need to decide on which one that you want to be involved with.  Sounds obvious enough right?  Well for many people this task is daunting and can cost them years of missing the right opportunities for home based businesses.

This article will help you narrow your search for a home based business down to a select group of categories.  Remember, this is only a small piece of the refining process but an important one.  Below is a list of the eight major categories of home based businesses that  you will fall into.

1. Mail order business:  This type of business is where you accept orders over the phone, by fax, from the Internet, or of course – by mail, and ship off your products through the postal system or the overnight carrier system.  The great thing about this type of business is that you never work face to face with your customers.

2. Distributor: Most of us fall into the category of a distributor.  This means that you purchase your products from a major seller (wholesaler) and then you in turn sell those products to brokers, sales companies, or other dealers.

3.  Broker:  A broker typically sells a product or service for one particular company.  So technically you work for someone else but instead of having to clock in and clock out everyday you will make your own hours.  And depending on the rules of the companies that you broker for you may or may not sell for multiple businesses.

4.  Manufacturer:  If you get excited about the idea of building and producing your own products then this form of business may be right for you.  Manufacturers have the ability to sell their products to virtually anybody; direct consumers, wholesale companies, dealers, etc.

5. Vendor: This category of operating your business revolves around the selling of products to other companies and businesses that they will use for their own use.  Similar to being a broker, you will be representing and working under another company but still can work your own hours and create your own schedule.
